The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, or Kahramaa, has installed a pilot 1-MW/4-MWh energy storage facility in Qatar utilising Tesla batteries.

The pilot project, which is the first of its kind in Qatar, was realised in cooperation with Al Attiyah Group and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). The batteries supplied by the latter are hooked to a substation that is connected to the 11-kV Nuaija station.

Al Attiyah Group was in charge of the civil work and installed the equipment at the station in coordination with Kahramaa. The total project cost is estimated at QAR 10 million (USD 2.7m/EUR 2.3m).
