QatarEnergy unveils 2 GW solar project
Sep 02, 2024 10:55 CESTJul 25, 2014 - Polysilicon producer Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) said on Tuesday it will be exploring opportunities to integrate 80 MW of solar power capacity into Qatar's railway network, currently under development.
The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the project with Qatar Railways Company. As a start, QSTec intends to install ground- and rooftop-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on a rail depot close to the new Sheikh Hamad International Airport.
QSTec aims to become a fully integrated solar energy company. It is presently building a 150-MW solar panel factory in Qatar along with a polysilicon plant with an annual production capacity of 8,000 tonnes. The firm is a joint venture between Qatar Foundation with a 70% stake, German sector player SolarWorld AG (ETR:SWVK) with 29% and the Qatar Development Bank with 1%.
