Polish solar installer Quanta Energy SA, part of the R.Power Group, has signed a contract with Volkswagen Poznan to build a 13-MW on-site solar array at the auto manufacturer’s Wrzesnia factory in Poland.

This will be the second stage of the solar facility after the completion of a 2-MW photovoltaic (PV) system in April.

The new installation will be the largest single-location on-site PV project in Central Eastern Europe, according to an emailed press release this week.

„All plants of Volkswagen Poznan are powered with 100% of energy coming from renewable sources, delivered by external vendors. To lower the energy cost, and at the same time grow the share of self-generated energy in the energy balance, we have decided to build an on-site PV installation in Wrzesnia,” explained Thomas Kreuzinger-Janik, managing director of Volkswagen Poznan plant in Wrzesnia.

The new installation will use bifacial, N-Type technology modules. Construction is expected to start this year, with commissioning anticipated by June 2024.
