UK renewable energy developer Queequeg Renewables Ltd expects to submit planning permission for more than a dozen projects with a combined capacity of 750 MW by the end of June this year, the company announced on Wednesday.

The projects in question are located across the UK and include solar and onshore wind power, as well as battery energy storage systems (BESS). Some of the sites envisage co-locating solar and storage.

Queequeg said that these projects are in addition to the 40-MW battery it plans to build near Stockport in Greater Manchester.

Mark Roberts, Project Development Director at Queequeg Renewables, delved into the range of factors that currently drive investment interest in UK renewable energy. He underscored the availability of a regulatory framework that encourages long-term investments, the ongoing advances in solar, wind and battery storage, as well as the reduction of installation costs.

“Another important development is much better access to the national grid. Previously, long connection queues delayed renewable installations from connecting to the grid and delivering their energy. But recent changes in distribution and transmission policies by grid operators have removed these obstacles and made connecting and monetising the energy generated by renewables faster and easier for developers,” Roberts stated and concluded by pointing at the rising customer demand over the past years.
