German solar module maker Recom said on Wednesday it will add a total of 1 GW of new manufacturing capacity in France and Armenia.

The plan will be implemented within the next eight months as part of Recom’s efforts to respond quickly to the growing demand for photovoltaic (PV) products.

More specifically, the company will boost the production capacity of its Sillia factory in Lannion, France, to 300 MW. The project is to be completed by the end of the year, turning the plant into the largest one in France producing solar PV modules.

Additionally, Recom is building a new manufacturing facility in Armenia that is scheduled to be switched on soon. With a capacity of 700 MW for PV cells and modules, the facility will serve markets such as the US, the Middle East and the European Union (EU).

"With increased automation of manufacturing processes and advanced planning technology we can offer European-made panels at today's internationally competitive market prices," said CEO Hamlet Tunyan.

Recom, active since 2007, has production plants for solar cells and modules in Italy and France.
