Saica Group, a producer of recycled paper for corrugated cardboard, has inaugurated a biomass plant at its paper mill in Venizel, France, it announced on Thursday.

The total cost of the project, as of the day of the announcement, amounts to EUR 41 million (USD 45.4m), Saica said in a statement. The development was backed by French environment and energy management agency Ademe and the Hauts-de-France region.

The plant is capable of generating enough electricity to supply the Saica Venizel paper mill in full, using about 75,000 tonnes of discarded wood and 26,000 tonnes of by-products.

Saica noted that the project helps reduce the site’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 71% and its consumption of natural gas by 89%.
