Redskins unveil stadium solar system

Sep 16, 2011 - The Washington Redskins and solar power developer NRG yesterday unveiled a new solar system at the team's FedEx Field stadium, which is being described as the largest solar installation at a National Football League stadium.

The system includes 8,000 solar panels and can generate almost 2 MW of electricity.

Depending on the state of the weather, the installation has the potential to fully meet FedEx Field's electricity needs on non-game days. On game days, the facility can cover up to a fifth of the stadium's power demand.
