Norwegian renewable power producer Scatec ASA (OSL:SCATC) today said its Release by Scatec business will expand its existing solar and battery storage power plants in Cameroon under two new lease agreements with national electricity company ENEO.

Release will add 28.6 MW of solar and 19.2 MWh of battery storage to the existing solar plants in Maroua and Guider. The company completed the existing facilities in September 2023 and they currently feature 35.8 MW of solar and 19 MWh of battery energy storage capacity. The projects use the Release offering of movable panels and batteries, which are deployed under leasing contract.

According to Release CEO Hans Olav Kvalvaag, the extension is a testimony to the success of the initial projects.

“In addition to improving electricity supply in Cameroon and significantly reducing the cost and CO2 emissions from alternative generation based on diesel supply, these pioneering leasing contracts with ENEO are serving as a model for access to affordable clean energy for other countries and large energy consumers in the region,” said Kvalvaag.

Release raised funding last year when Climate Fund Managers acquired a 32% stake in the business.

“We have the funding available to support significant growth and expect to close and start implementing several additional projects from our pipeline in the coming months,” Kvalvaag added.
