Italian renewable energy company Renantis, formerly Falck Renewables SpA, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to bankroll the construction of a 32.6-MW agrivoltaic park in Italy’s northeastern region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The 60-day initiative aims to raise funding for the Terzo d'Aquileia project, which will combine solar power generation with crop planting and beekeeping, Renantis said last week.

The crowdfunding campaign will be joined by residents of the municipalities of Terzo di Aquileia and Cervignano del Friuli. According to the developer’s estimates, the participation will bring them annual returns of 6.5%. At a later stage, the financing opportunity will also be open to Renantis' Italian employees, the company said.

The Terzo di Aquileia photovoltaic (PV) project is due to enter the construction phase in July. The complex will cover 52 acres, of which 45 acres will be used for power production and agricultural activities.

Once up and running, the solar farm will be capable of generating around 50 GWh of electricity annually, or enough to cover the demand of over 16,500 homes.
