European Energy, Centrica ink balancing deals for Lithuanian renewables
Sep 13, 2024 14:50 CEST(ADPnews) - May 31, 2011 - Lithuanian renewable energy company Renerga, controlled by local industrial group Achema Group, yesterday inaugurated a 34 MW wind power project in Benaiciai, western Lithuania.
Built at the cost of LTL 212 million (USD 88m/EUR 61m), the Benaiciai-1 wind farm comprises 17 units of Enercon E82 type wind turbines.
It is already the second project of the company in the region following a 16 MW facility, which has already been operating since five years. Both wind farms are projected to ultimately generate 130 million kWh of clean electricity per year, sufficient for 40,000 households.
Lithuania is committed to 23% share of renewables in its total energy consumption by 2020. According to the Lithuanian Wind Energy Association, or LWEA, the capacity of onshore wind power projects currently amounts to 90 MW.
