Victoria approves 450-MW solar farm with four-hour battery
Sep 11, 2024 15:01 CESTThe Aussie state of Queensland is set to become home to a 5-GW wind power complex under a proposal launched by Brisbane-based power generator Renewable Energy Partners (REP).
The Bogunda wind farm is planned to be installed in phases near Hughenden, about 385 km west of Townsville, with the capacity to generate electricity for at least 200,000 homes annually. The size of the first phase is expected to be 2 GW, according to local media, which quoted a company statement.
The turbine generators will be connected to the proposed CopperString 2.0 transmission link, a 1,100-kilometre (684-mile) overhead transmission facility planned to link Mount Isa, Cloncurry and the North West Minerals Province to the National Electricity Grid.
The Bogunda project is currently in the early stages of development and RES expects to bring online the initial 2-GW portion by the end of 2030.
Brisbane-based REP has 1.6 GW of solar, 2.4 GW of wind and 1.25 GW of hydropower assets, along with 24.5 GWh of battery energy storage projects in its development portfolio, its website shows.
