Renewable heating saves German households EUR 595 in 2009 - study

(ADPnews) - Nov 1, 2010 - German private households saved an average of EUR 595 (USD 830) in 2009 by using renewable heating, according to a study of Germany's Renewable Energy Agency.

In total, wood heaters, heat pumps and solar thermal systems resulted in heating bills lower by EUR 2.56 billion in 2009. The share of renewable energies in the overall heat consumption in Germany amounted to 10.7% last year.

However, the study does not include costs for the installation of a renewable or a conventional thermal system. "High initial investments still deter many homeowners from switching to renewable heating," said Joerg Mayer, general manager of the agency.
