Renewables account for 49% of Brazil's energy in 2023 Brazilian sugarcane field being harvest

The total renewables share in the energy mix of Brazil rose to 49.1% in 2023, according to data from the annual National Energy Balance report.

According to the document, the increase is attributed to the development of wind, solar and biomass, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced last week.

Hydropower remained stable throughout the year, accounting for 12% of the renewable generation.

The Brazilian National Energy Balance is an official document prepared by the Ministry of Mines and Energy together with state-owned energy research firm EPE, disseminating the main performance indicators of the country's energy sector, such as import and export, distribution and end use of energy.
