MDBs aim for USD 170bn annual climate finance by 2030
Nov 13, 2024 14:39 CESTPortugal's renewable power plants produced enough clean electricity to meet 68% of the country's demand during October, national grid operator Redes Energeticas Nacionais (REN), announced on Monday.
Non-renewable production covered 10%, and the remaining 22% was met by imported energy.
In the first ten months of the year, renewable sources accounted for 72% of consumption. Hydropower was the biggest source of electricity with a 30% share.
Wind power and solar energy contributed 26% and 10% in the same period, respectively, while biomass met 6% of the consumption.
Natural gas production supplied 9% of consumption, while the remaining 19% corresponded to imported energy, according to data from REN.
Overall, Portugal's electricity consumption grew by 2.3% in the first ten months of 2024 when adjusted for the effects of temperature and the number of working days, REN noted.
