Renewables make up 16.3% of Germany's energy mix in 2009 - study

(ADPnews) - Oct 12, 2010 - Renewable sources accounted for 16.3% of Germany's energy mix in 2009, up from 15.2% the year before, a study of the Federal Ministry for the Environment shows.

Furthermore, 2009 was the first year in which renewables crossed the 10% mark in the total consumption of heat, electricity and fuel. Green energy raised its share to 10.4% in the past year, compared with 9.3% in 2008.

Lastly, despite the global economic crisis, investments in renewable power plants exceeded EUR 20 billion (USD 28bn) in 2009.
