Renewable energy plants in Portugal supplied 94.9% of the country's electricity consumption in April, according to data from the national grid operator Redes Energeticas Nacionais (REN).

In April, electricity consumption grew 3.4%. When adjusted for the effects of temperature and number of working days, the increase was 0.2%.

During the first four months of the year, renewables have met 90% of the nation's power needs. Hydropower plants made the most significant contribution to meeting power needs, with a share of 48%. Wind parks followed in second place with 30%, while solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and biomass accounted for 7% and 6%, respectively.

REN's data shows that electricity from renewable sources has been meeting the country's monthly needs with values above 80% for the fourth consecutive month, after recording 91% in March, 88% in February and 81% in January.
