H-TEC to supply 1-MW electrolyser for H2 mobility scheme in Spain
Sep 17, 2024 11:56 CESTSpanish multi-energy company Repsol SA (BME:REP) announced on Monday that it has partnered with train manufacturer Talgo SA (BME:TLGO) on the development of green hydrogen-powered trains and emissions-free rail transport in the Iberian Peninsula.
The Madrid-based Talgo has already developed Vittal One, a hydrogen fuel cells-powered train solution for medium-distance and commute travel, which is due to be on track in November 2021 for demonstration and concept validation.
In partnership with Repsol, Talgo will continue to work on the design, manufacturing and commissioning of new trains, while the oil-and-gas major will offer its renewable hydrogen production infrastructure and logistical means to supply the railway network.
Repsol said it will produce hydrogen from biogas that it gets by processing organic waste at its industrial centres. The company has also announced that it will install two 100-MW electrolysers at the Cartagena refinery and at Petronor, Repsol’s majority-owned refiner in the Basque Country.
The Talgo-Repsol partnership will contribute to Spain achieving one of the government’s objectives for the national green hydrogen strategy, and that it to have two lines of hydrogen-powered commercial trains by 2030, Repsol said.
