RES account for 26% of Serbia's power output in 2020 - Eurostat

The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in Serbia's yearly energy output rose to 26.3% in 2020, up by 4.86 percentage points from the year prior, Eurostat said on Friday.

As a member of European Union's Energy Community, Serbia has committed to generate 27% of its energy from renewable sources in 2020 in its national renewable energy action plan.

RES participated in Serbia's energy consumption with 30.7% in 2020, as opposed to 30.11% in 2019, Eurostat said in an yearly analysis.

The largest part of renewable sources- generated energy in the country in 2020 came from hydroelectric power plants - 859.8 kilotons of oil equivalent. Wind came in second with 82.9 kilotons of oil equivalent, while 1.7 kilotons of oil equivalent and 1.1 kilotons were obtained from solar biofuels and solar energy, respectively.

Using other renewable sources, which include gaseous and liquid biofuels, renewable municipal waste, geothermal, and tide, wave and ocean, Serbia generated 14.9 kilotons of oil equivalent, the data showed.
