Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTUS power company Dominion Energy (NYSE:D) has put into operation a 12-MW/48-MWh battery energy storage project at the 17-MW Scott solar farm in Powhatan County, Virginia.
The project consists of one AC-coupled battery energy storage system and two DC-coupled battery energy storage systems that are retrofitted to the existing solar installation. The battery systems were built by UK’s RES Group.
For Dominion Energy, this is the biggest operational storage pilot project to date. The company has a 2-MW battery in New Kent County, which has been in operation since February, and another 2-MW battery in Hanover County that is due to be commissioned later this year.
In addition, a 20-MW storage project in Chesterfield County and a 50-MW storage project in Loudoun County have been approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission.
"These battery systems will help us better understand how best to deploy utility scale batteries across our service territory to support our goal of net zero emissions by 2050," said Dominion Energy Virginia's president Ed Baine.
