UK-based RES Group has secured authorisation for the construction of a 24-turbine wind farm in the Vasternorrland County of northern Sweden.

The approval was granted by the Ange municipal council, the British developer said on Monday and explained that the positive decision greenlights the selected location of the proposed wind farm. The next step will be to obtain a permit from the county administrative board.

The Storasen wind farm is expected to generate about 500 GWh of electricity annually within the Sundsvall (SE2) pricing zone. According to RES’ estimates, the output will be equal to 50% of the energy supply that will be required for the company’s proposed green hydrogen project in Ljungaverk, Ange municipality.

RES noted that the selected area offers very good wind conditions and does not include sites of national interest or protected areas. The project will share a grid connection point with RES’ two green hydrogen plants in the same municipality.

Storasen is one of several projects RES has developed in Ange across the wind, energy storage and hydrogen technologies.
