Revenue of German PV component makers drops 54% Y/Y in Q1 2012 - VDMA

Jul 11, 2012 - The revenue of German producers of photovoltaic (PV) components, machinery and equipment dropped by 54% on the year in the first quarter of 2012, German industry association VDMA reported on Tuesday.

The business of PV-equipment suppliers is negatively affected by the continuing weak willingness to invest of wafer, cell and module manufacturers, Peter Fath, technology manager of Centrotherm Photovoltaics AG (ETR:CTN) and member of VDMA, said.

According to Fath, the demand for equipment for solar cell production was particularly low at the beginning of 2012.

The revenue of German producers of PV components, machinery and equipment fell by 60% in Asia in the first three months of 2012.

However, as compared with international competitors, German companies are performing well and managed to keep their global market share of more than 40% in the first quarter of 2012.
