US energy transition-focused investor RockCreek has made an investment in Pinedale, Wyoming-based renewable transportation fuel producer Raven SR Inc, the parties announced jointly on Tuesday.

Raven SR uses a non-combustion thermal, chemical reductive process to convert organic waste and landfill gas to hydrogen and Fischer-Tropsch synthetic fuels.

The investment, whose amount was not disclosed, will be used to advance the commercialisation of the company’s low-to-negative carbon intensity hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), the announcement says.

RockCreek’s bet comes after Raven SR received in May environmental approval from the City of Richmond for its first organic waste-to-hydrogen bioenergy project. The renewable hydrogen to be produced at the facility will be commercially available in the Bay Area as of 2024 through agreements with Chevron New Energies and Hyzon Motors. An earlier statement says that commercial operations for SAF should being in 2025.

Earlier this year, Raven SR also attracted as a backer construction company Stellar J Corporation, which became its sixth strategic investor.
