Romania 10-mo energy output edges up 0.4% - table

Romania's energy output edged up by an annual 0.4% in the first 10 months of the year, while imports increased by 7.0%, the statistics office, INS, said on Thursday.

Romania's energy production totalled 18.2 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) through October, while imports reached 8.38 million TOE, INS said in a statement.

A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.

Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 52.5 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) in the first 10 months of 2014, up 8.9% on the year.

The Romanian thermal power plants' production rose by 1.2% to some 21.5 billion KWh through October. The hydroelectric power stations' output jumped 23.7% to 15.9 billion KWh. The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant edged up 0.8% to some 9.67 billion KWh and the output of wind farms was 3.8 billion KWh, up by 86.2 million KWh from a year earlier. Solar plants produced 1.2 billion KWh, up by 819 million KWh compared to the first 10 months of 2013.

Final electricity consumption through October fell by an annual 0.9% to 41.1 billion KWh.

Romania’s electricity exports rose by 4.9 billion KWh to 6.3 billion KWh in the period under review, INS said.
