Romanian pipe company Silcotub installing 20 MW of solar Source: Silcotub

Romanian steel pipe producer Silcotub SA, part of Luxembourg-based Tenaris, on Monday said it has initiated a solar energy generation project with a capacity of 19.8 MW/21.2 MWp.

The solar capacity will be installed on two neighbouring plots owned by the company in Calarasi in southeastern Romania, where it operates a steel processing facility.

The project, worth RON 96.9 million (USD 21m/EUR 19.5m) and supported by funds under Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), will be executed in 12 months, from December 2023 to December 2024.

Once completed, it is expected to generate 30,713 MWh of renewable electricity a year, or more than 614,000 MWh over a 20-year period. The solar installation will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18,971 equivalent tonnes of CO2 a year, the company estimates.
