Romania's energy output rose by an annual 4.9% in the first quarter of the year, while imports increased by 4.5%, the statistics office, INS, said on Tuesday.

Romania's energy production totalled 5.71 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) through March and imports rose to 2.58 million TOE, INS said in a statement.

A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
