In the first half of October news on the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and auctions awarding such came from exciting new destinations like Kazakhstan, Vietnam and island countries, and several established markets for renewable energy. Here is our list, starting with the most recent developments.

-- Republic of Palau inks PPA for 100-MW solar-powered microgrid

The Republic of Palau has signed a 30-year PPA with Electro Power Systems SA (EPA:EPS), or Engie EPS, for a 100-MW solar-powered microgrid project. The so-called Armonia project involves installing a 35-MW solar power plant with 45 MWh of energy storage, coupled with existing diesel generation. Read more..

-- Hawaiian Electric selects 255 MW of solar projects with 1 GWh storage

The state of Hawaii is set for a major boost in renewable energy after the Hawaiian Electric Companies selected seven solar-plus-storage projects that will bring 255 MW of solar and 1,055 MWh of storage to the islands of Oahu, Maui and Hawaii. Read more..

-- Kazakhstan awards 61.5 MW of hydro capacity

Kazakhstan said last week that three projects with a combined power capacity of 61.5 MW have won its hydropower tender. Read more..

-- B.Grimm inks PPA for 257-MW Vietnamese solar project

Thai company B.Grimm Power PCL (SET:BGRIM) said on Wednesday it has signed a PPA for a 257-MW solar project in Vietnam. Read more..

-- Flow Power inks 50-MW wind PPA in New South Wales

Australian energy retailer Flow Power will be buying 50 MW of the output of the 270-MW Sapphire wind project in the state of New South Wales. Read more..

-- Iberdrola to supply renewable power to Spanish telecom

Spanish electric utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) announced today it will supply to local telecommunications company Euskaltel renewable power from its 391-MW Nunez de Balboa photovoltaic (PV) plant. Read more..

-- Tender for 1.5-GW of grid-connected solar launched in Madhya Pradesh - report

Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd, the developer of the 750-MW Rewa solar park in Madhya Pradesh, has launched three tenders for a total of 1,500 MW of PV capacity, Mercom Capital reports. Read more..

-- New renewable CHP tender starts in Germany

Germany has started its second tender for innovative combined heat and power (CHP) projects that can use renewable heat sources such as heat pumps, solar thermal and geothermal energy. It aims to award contracts to 29.1 MW of projects. Read more..

Kazakhstan on October 5 selected four projects in an auction to award 250 MW of wind power capacity. Read more..

-- Cemig contracts 152.5 MWa of wind, solar power in auction

Brazilian utility Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais SA (BVMF:CMIG4), better known as Cemig, has contracted 152.5 MWa from wind and solar plants totalling 388 MW in a tender. Read more..

-- Netherlands to initiate 2nd zero-subsidy offshore wind tender this year

The offshore wind tender for sites III and IV of the Hollandse Kust Zuid zone in the Netherlands, with a combined capacity of around 700 MW, will be launched at the end of 2018, according to the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Eric Wiebes. Read more..

Germany’s coalition government agreed to quickly implement special renewable energy tenders that will add 4 GW each of solar and onshore wind capacity, as well as some offshore wind. Read more..
