Independent power producer (IPP) RP Global is crowdsourcing funds to pay for some of the costs of its 400-MW Carril Solar project in the region of Murcia, south-east Spain.

Details about the funding opportunity were posted on the website of Spanish crowdfunding platform Fundeen, which enables citizens to invest in renewables. According to Fundeen, RP Global is offering residents living in the project’s areas of influence to contribute funding for the development and construction of the Carril Solar plant.

The fundraising campaign is targeting EUR 450,000 (USD 490,300). Fundeen itself has contributed EUR 5,000, according to its website.

The Carril Solar project is classified as being in development. Fundeen warns of the risk that RP Global may not obtain all permits to start construction.

The IPP proposes to install the solar farm in the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, and build a transmission line that would cross into the Lorca municipality, it says on the project's dedicated website. The company has so far secured consent and expects the plant to start commercial operation in the first quarter of 2023.
