Danish energy group Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) on Tuesday said it has selected UK engineering and construction company VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd to install the onshore cables for its 2,852-MW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project in the UK.

Under the contract, which is subject to a final investment decision on the project, the UK contractor will install 240 km (149 miles) of onshore cables. Its remit will cover civil works associated with the cable installation and grid connection, the installation work and the reinstatement of land, including tree and hedgerow planting.

The cables will connect the wind farm’s landfall at Weybourne in Norfolk to the Norwich Main National Grid Substation.

VolkerFitzpatrick plans to hold a "Meet the Buyer" event in the east of England next month.

Hornsea 3, which will be built 160 km from the Yorkshire coast, was among the projects that secured contracts for difference (CfD) in the latest UK allocation round that wrapped up recently.
