Danish energy group Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) has completed the installation of the 111 wind turbines at the 900-MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms in Taiwan.

This is now the offshore wind project with the largest capacity and the highest number of installed wind turbines in the Asia-Pacific region, the company said in a LinkedIn post on Thursday.

The wind complex features 111 SG 8.0-167 DD turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa under an agreement signed in 2019. The manufacturer said the project involves fully Taiwan-made towers and 75 nacelles from its Taichung Nacelle Plant, Siemens Gamesa’s first offshore nacelle plant outside Europe.

Ørsted announced first power from the complex in April 2022. The Changhua 1 and 2a commissioning was subsequently put off due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 605-MW Greater Changhua 1 is co-owned by Ørsted with 50% and Caisse de depot et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Cathay PE, with a combined stake of 50%.

In March 2023, Ørsted announced a final investment decision (FID) on the 920-MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
