Danish offshore wind installation company Cadeler A/S (OSL:CADLR) and compatriot offshore wind developer Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) on Monday signed a firm long-term lease agreement for a newbuilt wind farm installation vessel.

Under the agreement, Ørsted will book a new-built A-Class vessel from Cadeler from the first quarter of 2027 to the end of 2030. The vessel has a hybrid design and can transport and install both foundations and turbines.

"Securing long-term capacity with strategic suppliers is key for Ørsted to build collaboration and together manage risks and execution of our offshore wind construction programme towards 2030 and beyond,” said Patrick Harnett, chief operating officer at Ørsted.

The deal builds on existing synergies and experience from Hornsea 3, which represents Cadeler’s first foundation installation project. The vessel operator said Ørsted is now disclosed as the customer in its October 2022 announcement of a vessel reservation agreement.

The A-Class newbuilds are designed to carry up to six XXL monopile foundations per round trip and can rapidly transition from foundation installation vessels to wind turbine installation vessels. They can transport and install seven complete 15-MW turbine sets per load or five plus-20-MW turbines, Cadeler explained.
