Danish clean energy group Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) has completed a community consultation about its Mooir Vannin project, the Isle of Man’s first offshore wind farm.

The consultation was held between July and September and the company is planning to submit a planning application in the spring of 2025. According to the community consultation booklet, the project will have a capacity in the region of 1.4 GW and up to 100 turbines. Anticipated connection points are in Penwortham, Lancashire in the UK and the Douglas area in the Isle of Man.

"The feedback has demonstrated a high level of interest and knowledge about the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm, which is very encouraging," said John Galloway, Ørsted development director for the Isle of Man.

Galloway added that questions and concerns will be considered and shared in a consultation report. “It is important to note the plans we presented for consultation were a maximum design scenario that shows the potential impact of the greatest size, number and widest spread of turbines at the closest edge to the shore. Our proposals will now be reviewed, refined, and adapted ahead of submitting a planning application next year,” Galloway further said.

The company is continuing to work with Manx Utilities and departments across the Isle of Man government.
