US aerospace and defence conglomerate RTX Corp (NYSE:RTX) on Thursday announced its largest renewable energy procurement so far, a deal with a subsidiary of the North American arm of French energy utility group Engie SA (EPA:ENGI).

The agreement with Engie Resources LLC will provide 100% renewable electricity to 12 of RTX's facilities in Texas. With a duration till 2033, the deal will start with six RTX locations in 2024 and extend to 12 sites by 2028. It will nearly double RTX's usage of renewable electricity in 2023 and provide more than 1.5 million MWh hours of renewable electricity over the next 10 years.

The largest site covered by the agreement is RTX's Raytheon facility in McKinney, Texas, which makes high-energy lasers, sensors and radars. This site will use more than 55% of the procured energy.

The deal involves renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Eengie's Priddy wind project in Mills County, Texas, meeting a small portion of RTX's forecasted load in 2024. The 300-MW Priddy wind farm went live in 2022.

The rest of RTX's energy needs for 2024 and beyond will come from electricity and RECs delivered by several Engie renewable electricity projects in Texas, mainly new ones.

"This agreement will put RTX on a pathway to achieve its 2025 goal of 10% renewable electricity and its 2030 goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46% from 2019 levels," said Annette McNeely, vice president, Environment, Health & Safety for RTX, whose businesses include Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon.

Joey Lange of Trio, formerly Edison Energy, which advised RTX, said: "Trio is proud of its collaboration with RTX and to have supported this innovative structure for retail-delivered renewable energy."
