Russia has recommended two sites in North Korea where the government of the isolated country should measure and monitor winds ahead of building wind farms with a combined capacity of up to 20 MW.

Russian electric utility RAO Energy System of East Group (MCX:VRAO) has picked the two sites for the construction after assessing the opportunity, Far East development minister Alexander Galushk said on Monday, as quoted by Prime News.

North Korea is to install wind measuring facilities within a year, after which the government will decide whether to proceed with the feasibility studies, the minister has said.

The country has long been suffering from power shortages and state media said last week that it is trying to make up for that with the use of renewable energy. At present, North Korea relies heavily on hydropower.

RAO Energy System of East is a unit of RusHydro.
