ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTGerman energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) and hydrocarbon specialties maker Haltermann Carless have sealed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to partner on a green hydrogen production project in south-east UK.
The facility is planned to be located on a terrain part of Haltermann Carless' industrial site in Harwich, Essex which specialises in agrochemicals and fuel additives with plans to be upgraded for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). The area also hosts RWE’s operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the Galloper wind farm.

Both RWE and Haltermann Carless have completed feasibility studies for a green electrolyser at the site and are already working to secure grid and water connections to advance the project, according to a recent statement.
Haltermann Carless Harwich is located next to the Freeport East area, a centre for clean energy production, comprising the Port of Felixstowe and the Harwich International Port. The area already houses the Green Energy Hub at Harwich (Bathside Bay), which is designed to support large-scale manufacturing of offshore wind turbines and components, and the Port of Felixstowe Green Hydrogen Project.
