RWE AG (ETR:RWE) said on Friday that Thyboron Port on the Danish North Sea coast will serve as the offshore construction base for its 1.1-GW Thor offshore wind farm in Denmark.

The port will accommodate the project’s service vessels and will function as the control centre for managing marine logistics and traffic during the offshore construction phase. Additionally, Thyboron will handle the secondary steel structures during the foundation installation works starting in spring 2025. Buss Ports will lease an area at the port for this purpose.

“Thyboron will play an important role in the successful delivery of our Thor project – Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date. Secondary steel structures, such as boat landings for the foundations, will be handled there. Thyboron Port will provide us with the necessary facilities and port infrastructure, while
Buss Ports will manage the port logistics. Thyboron will be home to the Thor team for more than two years as they manage all construction activities,” said Guenther Fenle, project director for Thor at RWE.

The German company recently secured a permit for Thor’s offshore installation works. The installation of the project’s 72 turbines is slated to be executed from the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark, starting in 2026. RWE last week also broke ground on a new service building for the offshore wind farm at the Port of Thorsminde.
