Aug 7, 2013 - RWE Innogy, the renewable energy arm of German utility RWE AG (ETR:RWE), and UK's Scottish and Southern Energy (LON:SSE), or SSE, announced today that they launched the 500-MW Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm in the UK.

The total value of the joint venture project amounts at GBP 1.6 billion (USD 2.4bn/EUR 1.8bn).

The facility includes 140 wind turbines with a capacity of 3.6 MW each that take up some 147 sq km (56.8 sq miles) around 23 km off the Suffolk shore.

The wind farm, whose construction started in 2008 and ended in September 2012, can generate enough electricity to supply 530,000 households.
