Swedish floating wind specialist Hexicon AB (STO:HEXI) said today that it has been awarded an environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval for its project to build a 1,125 MW floating offshore wind farm off the southeastern coast of South Korea.

The green light from Korea’s Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy paves the way for the project to participate in the new wind power auction system in the country, Hexicon highlighted in the press statement.

The MunmuBaram project is being developed about 60 kilometres off the coast of Ulsan. When operational, the station will generate enough power to meet the electricity needs of more than 700,000 local homes.

The project has been formally operated by Hexicon since July after the Nordic firm bought out the share held by its joint venture partner Shell.
