French packaging group Albea agrees 12-MWp solar off-take deal
Sep 19, 2024 5:38 CESTFrench group Saft (EPA:SAFT) on Tuesday said it has been contracted to deliver of its three Intensium Max 20P high-power lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery containers to provide ramp-rate control and frequency response for a 10 MW photovoltaic (PV) facility in Puerto Rico.
The contract has been awarded by Windmar, a company, founded in 2002, which claims to be the largest local renewable energy company and also the first company in Puerto Rico to have completed a utility-scale project and the first to supply electricity from a solar farm to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).
Thanks to Saft batteries, Windmar will be able to meet PREPA’s minimum technical requirements of 4.5 MW of peak power for ramp-rate control and 1 MW for frequency response.
The island’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requires the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority to obtain 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035.
