Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA (EPA:SGO) has taken a minority stake in a unit of Swiss solar modules and mounting systems maker Megasol as part of a strategic partnership aimed at expanding the French building materials maker’s photovoltaic (PV) facade solutions offering.

Saint-Gobain invested in Megasol's business unit that develops and manufactures building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) at its site in Deitingen, Switzerland. These facade systems provide high performance and a reduced carbon impact thanks to less embodied carbon and lower energy requirements for a building in use, a press release said on Wednesday.

The bet was aligned with the French firm’s “Grow & Impact” plan to strengthen its position in light and sustainable construction, according to the press statement. The size of the investment remained undisclosed.

Megasol makes photovoltaic modules, offering coloured and customised solar facades as well as solar tiles and solar roof systems. The company employs 140 people in Switzerland and is present in 18 countries. The investment by Saint-Gobain gives Megasol access to the French company's customer base.
