French building materials maker Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA (EPA:SGO) has agreed to procure 22 GWh of wind power per year from a new farm in Italy built by Swiss power producer and energy trader Axpo Holding AG.

The power will be sourced from a facility in the Puglia region. The contracted volume will meet 11% of Saint-Gobain’s electricity needs in the country, the French firm said in a statement.

The 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Axpo Italia marks the fifth power offtake deal signed by Saint-Gobain in the country. Combined, these contracts cover 20% of the Italian operations of the construction materials firm.

About a year ago, Greek industrial group Mytilineos SA agreed to build a 4.9-MW solar park at Saint-Gobain's factory in Vidalengo, near Bergamo.

The French firm is actively procuring renewable power for its global operations. In December, it secured 140 GWh of solar electricity for its operations in South Africa. A month earlier, it sealed a 14-year PPA with Swiss power company Alpiq.
