ACWA Power Co (TADAWUL:2082) has announced this week that the 1.5-GW Sudair solar power plant in Saudi Arabia has become fully operational.

The company said in a bourse filing that on Wednesday it received from the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) the commercial operation certificate for Group 3 of the project, or the final 25% of its total capacity. The entire project of 1.5 GW has now reached commercial operation.

The first half of the project was launched in September 2023.

ACWA Power and Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel) each own 35% of the project while the remaining 30% is held by the Saudi Aramco Power Company (SAPCO).

The electricity produced at Sudair will be sold under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company at a price of USD 0.012 per kWh.

The USD-924-million (EUR 845m) project employs bi-facial panels with tracking technology and automated robotic cleaning, according to ACWA Power's website.
