Infener to set up 20-MW green hydrogen hub in Germany
Sep 17, 2024 14:59 CESTJapanese energy firm developer SB Energy Corp has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Australia-based Elixir Energy Ltd (ASX:EXR) to study the eventual development of a gigawatt-scale green hydrogen project in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia.
The companies will undertake certain pre-feasibility studies in order to develop a small-scale pilot project that could pave the way for the larger scheme.
SB Energy said it wants to explore the possibility of utilising renewable sources to produce green hydrogen. The Japanese company operates the 50-MW Tsetsii wind farm in the Gobi Desert through a local joint venture.
"The country’s excellent renewable resources and proximity to potential hydrogen markets makes Mongolia a potential Tier One location for future green hydrogen production and we look forward to accelerating our efforts on this front under this new partnership," said Neil Young, Elixir Energy’s managing director and CEO.
