German solar mounting solutions manufacturer Schletter Group will supply its systems for a 130-MWp solar photovoltaic project in the Dominican Republic, it said in an announcement on Monday.

This ground-mounted project, known as Coastal Solar, is situated just a few hundred metres from the sea shore in the city of San Pedro de Macoris. Due to its proximity to the sea, the solar farm will require robust mounting systems that can withstand seasonal hurricanes, extreme humidity and high chloride content in the marine atmosphere, Schletter explained.

The German manufacturer said that it will supply its ground-mounted FS Duo System for the project. This is a dual pile system made of high tensile steel and designed to withstand winds of up to 257 kilometres per hour (159.7 mph). Additionally, all steel components with corrosion class C4 are coated in resistant zinc.

Once assembled, the Coastal Solar plant will feature 255,540 modules mounted on 5,370 racks.

The project was developed by Spanish power infrastructure builder SEMI. According to the archive of the Dominican Republic’s national energy commission, Coastal Petroleum Dominicana SA, a domestic hydrocarbons importer, was granted the definitive concession to build and operate the solar farm.

With this order, Schletter will see its mounting systems applied in over 700 MW of solar farms across the Caribbean. The manufacturer has been present in the Dominican Republic since 2011, installing its ground-mounted systems for a number of notable solar projects, including Monte Plata, Monte Cristi, Santanasol and Cumayasa.
