The Scottish government announced on Monday that it is offering GBP 7 million (USD 9.24m/EUR 8.31m) in funding to support the development of green hydrogen projects in Scotland.

The funding will help businesses cover the costs of projects ranging from 5 MW to 400 MW in production capacity. Support will also be available for work supporting the hydrogen supply chain and storage solutions, the government said.

The support scheme has been co-developed with Scotland’s economic agency Scottish Enterprise, which will facilitate and managed the fund. It complements a total of almost GBP 7 million awarded under the Scottish Government’s GBP-10-million Hydrogen Innovation Scheme, which has supported 31 projects across the country since 2023.

“This funding - which will help support the development of green hydrogen projects and hydrogen hubs across the country, will, in time, help unlock opportunities in hydrogen for use and export and to power the clean energy intensive industries of the future,” stated Acting Minister for Climate Action Alasdair Allan.

Each applicant can request a maximum of GBP 2 million from the new funding scheme. Organisations have until September 27 to apply for funding.
