Infener to set up 20-MW green hydrogen hub in Germany
Sep 17, 2024 14:59 CESTGerman nationalised energy company Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE) said it has completed a deal to take full control of gas network operator Wiga in a move that would bolster Germany’s hydrogen strategy.
SEFE purchased the 50.02% stake in Wiga that was held by its joint venture partner Wintershall Dea AG.

Through the transaction, the nationalised company is gaining control of Wiga’s subsidiaries GASCADE and NEL, which together operate gas pipelines with a total length of 4,150 km.
“With a high-performance infrastructure, we will be able to support the future transport of climate-neutral gases such as hydrogen from production sites to industrial centres,” SEFE’s CEO Egbert Laege commented on the transaction.
GASCADE and NEL will continue to operate independently after the acquisition.
The deal, first disclosed in March, was completed after it was approved by the European Commission.
