Sentiment in German renewable energy industry darkens further in Dec 2013

Jan 13, 2014 - The index measuring the sentiment in Germany's renewable energy sector fell to 88.5 points in December from 94.1 points in November, renewable energy institute IWR said on Friday.

This was the fourth straight month of deteriorating confidence in the sector, IWR said.

The index, published by IWR every month, measures the mood in the renewable power industry in terms of the current situation in the sector and the expectations for the next six months.

The industry, however, kept its positive outlook in December concerning future exports and expects an improvement in the next six months.

About 29% of the polled firms said they trusted current Energy Minister Sigmar Gabriel to carry out the ongoing energy transition, while 14% stuck with former Environment Minister Peter Altmaier. The remaining 57% said they had no opinion on the issue.

The business climate index has remained in negative territory, i.e. below 100 points, since 2011.
