Sentiment in German renewable sector worsens in Jan

Feb 13, 2014 - The business climate index for the renewable energy industry in Germany fell for the fifth consecutive month in January due to the continuing discussions on the reform in the Renewable Energy Act (EEG), German renewable energy institute IWR said today.

The index, issued by IWR monthly, measures the mood in the renewable energy industry regarding the current situation in the sector and the expectations for the next six months.

The decrease of the index in January is slightly lower than the previous month as it fell by just 0.3 points to 88.2 points, compared with a drop of 5.6 points in December 2013.

The industry sentiment regarding the current situation slightly improved in January, compared with the previous month. However, the companies from the sector have low expectations in their outlook for the next six months. The morale towards future exports remained positive.

According to IWR's pole, 80% of the companies think the reform, proposed by the Federal Economy and Energy Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, will lead to slower renewable energy expansion.
