Serbia and Hyundai Engineering Co Ltd have already started talks on a project to deploy 1 GW of solar capacity, coupled with storage, in the eastern and southern parts of the Balkan country.

Serbian energy minister Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic commented on the current developments on the project in a recent TV interview, as quoted on government websites on Tuesday.

The new solar sites will be built for state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) which last year selected a consortium of Hyundai Engineering, Hyundai ENG America and UGT Renewables as a strategic partner for the construction of new solar capacities in the country.

The project envisages the construction of five clean power facilities with a combined capacity of 1.2 GWp, coupled with at least 200 MW of energy storage.

The facilities should be finalised by no later than June 1, 2028, according to earlier releases.
