Serbia offers 450 MW of wind, solar in maiden renewables auction Peaceful generation. Author: Gerry Machen.

Serbia’s ministry of mining and energy on Wednesday launched a renewable energy auction, offering to award contracts for difference (CfDs) for 400 MW of wind and 50 MW of solar power.

It will be the first such auction for the Balkan country, which expects to award market premiums for 1,300 MW of renewables in the next three years as part of its incentives plan.

The ceiling price for this round is set at EUR 105 (USD 113.5) per MWh for wind power and EUR 90/MWh for solar. Bidders who offer the lowest price in relation to the ceiling will be prioritised, the ministry said.

The CfDs will be awarded for 15 years, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which supported the auction, said in a separate announcement. The reference price for calculating the premium is the price of electricity on Serbian power exchange market SEEPEX, the ministry added.

The proposed wind farms must have at least 3 MW of capacity. For solar, the minimum is 0.5 MW.

The last day to submit applications is August 14, 2023.

Technical assistance for the development of the legal and regulatory framework to facilitate renewable energy auctions was provided by the EBRD with funding support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
