Serbian, Bosnian Power Utilities To Jointly Prepare Hydropower Plants Construction

BELGRADE (Serbia), September 21 (SeeNews) – Serbia's power monopoly EPS and Bosnian power utility EPRS have signed an agreement to jointly prepare the construction of hydropower plants, the government in Belgrade said.

The agreement was signed by EPS CEO Dragomir Markovic and EPRS CEO Branislava Milekic in Belgrade, the Serbian government said in a statement on its website late on Friday.

The two sides will jointly finance the preparation of a feasibility and environmental impact study for the construction of hydropower plants on the Drina river. Total investment in the project is estimated at 819 million euro ($1.07 million), Milekic said in the statement.

The power plants will be built at four or five locations, on which the decision will be made after the documentation is prepared, she added.

State Secretary of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development Stefano Saglia, who attended the signing of the agreement, said that Italy is interested in importing electricity from the Balkan region and that all European Union member states have pledged to generate from renewable sources 20% of the energy they consume by 2020.
